Recent cool softwares for Mac

  • Google Calendar supports iCal in Mac OSX:
The official Google Mac blog has launched a tool to enable the use of Google Calendar with iCal.This is a nice little tool. Before using this, I can only subscribe to my Google Calendar but not to change it.
  • Songbird (the open music player) to iTunes is like Firefox to Safari. (official website)
The former is open source and available to all platforms, and the latter is closed source and only available in Mac and Windoz.  The cool thing of Songbird is that it is very customizable through addons. For example, I just downloaded the LyricMaster, which gets lyrics of the song that I am playing now. As a matter of fact, when I am updating this post using the built-in browser of Songbird. Isn’t this cool? See:

What I am expecting next?

  • I hope Google could release a version of Picasa in Mac soon. The waiting is a bit too long. I do not like the iPhoto’s way of managing photos.

I believe that Apple has done a very good job on producing high-quality softwares, but their closed-way of developing will finally not fit the more and more open society. I do not want to mention that Microsoft is even worse in adopting the free software idea.
